The School Site
Thorpe House is located in Oval Way in Gerrards Cross. The main site, Senior School building (Heywood House) and Pre-Prep building (Kingscote) are adjacent to one another, except that All Saints Church (which is regularly used by the school) separates the main site from the Pre-Prep. There are separate playing fields located in Priory Road, about half a mile from the main school.
The main site has ten classrooms, two Science Laboratories, a Gymnasium/Hall, Computer Room, Library and specialist areas for Music, Art and Design Technology. There is also a dining room and an outdoor heated swimming pool adjacent to the site.
The senior school building, Heywood House, has been converted to provide classrooms for boys in Year 9, 10 and 11 and the senior boys are based in that building except for when being taught in specialist rooms and attending assemblies or lunch.
The Pre-Prep building. Kingscote, is all set out at ground floor level. It has seven modern classrooms, including the Nursery, and a large hall which is used for variety of uses. There is a grass area outside where the pre-prep boys do their sporting activities.
The school has projectors onto interactive whiteboards in every room. There is a hard wired network for the classroom computers, but also a wireless network which allows pupils to access the school's system via laptops from one of the class sets. This therefore allows classes to use computers anywhere in the school.
The playing field at Priory Road is a seven acre site owned and used solely by the school. As well as there being space for four full size pitches there is a large pavilion which provides space for changing and after match entertainment. There is also a hard tennis court at the site. The boys are taken to the Games field in our minibuses which takes two minutes, and so little time is lost in movement between the sites.
The school day is arranged in such a way that the main school playground is never in use by boys in both the senior school and junior school at the same time. Lunch in the Dining Room is similarly segregated into two separate sittings. However, junior and senior boys encounter one another moving around the site on a regular basis and we actively encourage the older boys to get involved with the younger ones. The Pre-Prep boys spend nearly all their day on thier own site but come up to the main school for swimming from Reception upwards.
