Team Sports
As part of their compulsory curriculum Thorpe House boys take part in a substantial programme of Games and PE. All boys in the school have a full afternon of sport one day a week. For those in the Junior and Senior schools this is the time when competitive fixtures against other schools take place.
In addition to this standard provision the boys at different ages are given many other sport and PE lessons. Those in the Pre-Prep have a PE lesson once a week and the boys in Reception and above also have two swimming sessions a week during the Summer Term. Once the boys get to Year 2 they have an additional double lesson of Games with the Year 3 boys learning the basics of Rugby, Football and Cricket.
- During the Autumn Term we play Rugby
- During the Spring Term we play Football
- During the Summer Term we play Cricket and Athletics
In the Junior School the boys have a period of PE and two further double periods of Games throughout the week. The PE lesson is a swimming lesson when the pool is open and the boys follow an indoor programme developing other PE skills during the rest of the year.
In the Senior School the boys in Years 7 to 9 have a period of PE and one other double period of Games. When the boys get to Year 10 and 11 they only have the full afternoon of Games but those who are strong sportsmen have the opportunity to take Physical Education as a GCSE subject.
Once the boys get to the Junior School all PE and Games sessions are taken by members of our highly qualified PE department.
We run a full programme of A and B fixtures at U8, U9, U10, U11, U13, U14 and U16 levels in the major sports, with occasional C team fixtures depending on the sport in question and age group. The school also takes part in fixtures in both Swimming and Tennis and enters boys for national competitions in other sports including judo and golf.
By clicking on the relevant tab you will find the fixture lists for the current term. There are also tabs to give directions to the schools against which we play away fixtures.
Team lists for matches can be found within the Parents' Zone.
